MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee's ever-expanding Deer District saw another groundbreaking ceremony Thursday, April 9. 

And this latest project is a little different than the sports and entertainment developments we've seen. 

It's called 'Fieldhouse Flats' at the intersection of Vel R. Phillips and Juneau. It's a complex that will include some commercial space, an athletic training facility for Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), a parking garage and affordable apartments for middle income earners. 

Those apartments are important to Alderwoman Milele Coggs who represents the district. She believes Fieldhouse Flats can be a bridge between downtown and the greater community. 

"Just something that I think shows a level of intention and inclusion, to let folks know that you don't just have to come here to spend your money or to work for others, but that you too could've here and be a part of downtown on that way," said Ald. Milele Coggs.
