DELAFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Delafield police have released body camera footage showing a life-saving rescue of a suicidal juvenile late Friday night.
It happened on the Genesee St. overpass of I-94 just before 11:00 p.m. on May 17.
In the near eight-minute-long clip, you can see officers arrive on scene and locate a teen standing at the guardrail on the edge of the bridge.
One officer begins to create conversation with the teen and convinces him to step away, while continuously moving closer.
"Officers were able to seize an opportunity where the individual was facing away from the edge and secured them. The individual was secured without injury and provided with crisis services," a news release said.
Westbound 1-94 and the overpass were closed briefly due to the incident but have since reopened.
"Our thoughts are with the individual and their family as they navigate these difficult times. We would like to applaud the work of our dedicated officers who acted with compassion and bravery during this incident," the release said.
The Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin DNR, Village of Summit, Village of Chenequa, and Lake Country Fire and Rescue also helped with the rescue.
If you or a loved one are in need of assistance, you can call the 24/7 suicide and crisis hotline at 988.
