Complaint: Delavan man charged after randomly attacking woman in Burlington
BURLINGTON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Delavan man is facing several charges after allegedly randomly attacking a woman in Burlington Wednesday, Nov. 16.
Authorities responded to the area near Jefferson Street and Perkins Boulevard around 8:16 a.m. for a report of a woman yelling for help.
Police say officers arrived to find a man, later identified as Richard Sallman of Delavan, assaulting a woman with a jacket wrapped around her head.
Officers stopped the assault, and the woman was transported to an area hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
According to a police investigation, the suspect approached the victim while she was in her car and began to strike her and choke her. The suspect allegedly attempted to suffocate the victim and threatened to kill her several times during the assault.
Police say the victim did not know the suspect.
Sallmann reportedly attempted to flee officers and was taken into custody.
He is currently being held at the Racine County Jail on the following charges:
- Attempted first-degree intentional homicide
- Second-degree sexual assault/use of force
- Strangulation
- Battery
- Disorderly conduct
- Resisting arrest
Burlington police say this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community at this time.
