Deputies respond to fight in North Point parking lot at Bradford Beach
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- There was a large emergency response at Bradford Beach Monday night, June 2, after a fight in the North Point parking lot. Now, some beachgoers say they want more police presence at the beach during the summer.
“You come here to be, bond with your friends. Play some volleyball, lay out, get some sun," said Anja Jaramillo, a beachgoer.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office confirmed with CBS 58 they were called to Bradford Beach over multiple fights on Monday night. We also learned Milwaukee police responded for someone with a weapon. The sheriff's office says one person was taken into custody.
“When it gets to the late hours, it does get to be a little precarious," said Robert Delcotto, a beachgoer. “I really don’t think that an incident like that should be happening here, like a lot of families are here.”
Nas Musa, the owner of MooSa's restaurant at Bradford Beach, says he wants to see at least one officer at the beach, especially as the night goes on.
“I would like to see parents looking after their kids closely, making sure they’re not running around, acting like fools past a certain time," said Musa. “I do believe the sheriff’s department did a phenomenal job by getting everyone out of the park by 9 p.m.”
Other beachgoers agree.
“I feel a little apprehensive, but you know, luckily the majority of the times I have been here, I haven’t experienced anything like that," said Jaramillo.
Musa says the beach should be a safe place for everyone to enjoy without fear.
“If you’re coming to the park, just behave. Don’t ruin it for everyone," said Musa.
An investigation is ongoing.
