Desserts to prepare with all that leftover Halloween candy
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Each year parents wonder what to do with their family trove of Halloween candy. Sharon Hope, lead volunteer chef for Marquette University Neighborhood Kitchen visited the CBS 58 studios this morning with suggestions for how to prepare food using that leftover Halloween candy. Check below for a few of her recipes.
Flourless Peanut Butter Cookies
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
Pinch of salt
1 cup peanut butter (or preferred nut butter)
Beat brown sugar, egg and salt together. Add peanut butter and mix well. Drop of greased sheet pan. Bake at 325-350 until you smell them and the edges are lightly browned. Top with leftover candy such as reese’s, rolos, M&M’s, raisins, nuts, etc. You can also dip half the cookie in melted chocolate and top with nerds, sprinkles, etc.
Fall Snack Mix
Popcorn or caramel corn
Mini marshmallows
Pretzels
Candy pumpkins
Nuts
Customizable with what you have on hand and preferred flavors!
Rice Crispies
Make according to the recipe on the box (can substitute the rice crispies for whatever cereal on hand)
Mix in desired candy before pressing into pan; nerds, M&M’s, chopped candy bars, etc.
Dirt Cups
Top pudding cups with crushed oreos and gummy worms
Jello Cups
Top jello cups with gummy bears
Cheesecake
4 eggs
1 ½ cup sugar
4-8 oz. packages of cream cheese
Dash of salt
Beat all ingredients until smooth, Pour into springform pan and bake at 325 until center is set, about 45 minutes.
Top with desired candy such as Twix, kitkat, pretzels, etc.
Spider Cookies
1-lb. bag of chow mein noodles
1-lb. chocolate, melted
Handful of cranberries or raisins
Mix all ingredients together and drop by rounded teaspoonful onto a baking sheet. Let harden.
Top brownies with mint patties of chopped toffee.
