Donald Driver bringing girls flag football to Wisconsin schools
CBS 58 RACINE, Wis (CBS 58) - Donald Driver is bringing a girl's flag football league to some Wisconsin schools that is expected to start in the 2026-2027 school year.
Driver is working with the Racine Unified School District and Kenosha Unified School District to bring the league to 9th-12th graders.
“It’s the first step to get us where we need to be, and we know that it’s going to take a village and we’re gonna need not just Racine but we’re gonna need the entire state,” Driver said. “Now these young women know that they have a platform.”
The league will be a club format and will continue to develop over the next several months before the new school year.
“Just seeing girls get the opportunity to play is just so exciting to me,” Racine Unified student Mckynna Syzmandera said. “I’m so happy to be able to get the opportunity and be in the district where we are doing it.”
There will be a “club day” in June at Hammes Field in Racine to kick off the league.
“I never thought I'd ever get the chance to play, powder puff that was one thing but actually playing I never thought I’d get to try,” Racine Unified student Mikayla Kaprelian said. “I feel honored to be the start of something.”
