Potawatomi's 'Heart of Canal Street' program raises more than $664K for children's charities in 2024
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- More than $664,000 -- that's how much Potawatomi's signature giving program raised this year.
The casino's Heart of Canal Street program is now in its 30th year. The name comes, of course, from the casino's location on Canal Street.
It works like this. Through the year, the casino helps raise money for charitable organizations across our hometown. Then, 30 local nonprofits are awarded an even split of the grand total in a random drawing.
"Heart of Canal Street is our children's giving program, we give away to children's charities and it's all random and it's all a ton of fun," said Sarah Neubauer, senior PR specialist.
Each winning organization will get just over $22,000. Over the program's 30 years, they've benefited more than 350 nonprofits, raising more than $21 million.
