MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A high-speed pursuit spanning multiple counties ended in the arrest of 46-year-old Charles Lewis from South Milwaukee, after a collaborative effort by law enforcement agencies on Monday, Nov. 20.
The Milwaukee Police Dept. report says that they initiated the chase following Lewis's alleged involvement in drug dealing at a Milwaukee gas station, after which, Lewis led the police on a pursuit down I-94, entering Racine County at around 5:37 p.m.
As the chase moved south, the Racine County Sheriff’s Office reportedly deployed stop sticks on the interstate, successfully deflating the vehicle's tires, but Lewis persisted at reduced speeds.
The chase, extending into Kenosha County, saw the Pleasant Prairie Police Dept. assume lead, with Milwaukee Police, Sheriff’s deputies and Wisconsin State Patrol in support.
The suspect was eventually boxed in and apprehended by Pleasant Prairie Police, with assistance from multiple law enforcement units, including a K-9 team. A subsequent search reportedly revealed crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia in Lewis’s vehicle.
Officials claim that Lewis first provided a false identity but was later confirmed through previous booking photos and tattoos.
Facing charges in multiple jurisdictions for drug dealing and other offenses, Lewis was transported back to Milwaukee by the Milwaukee Police Dept.
