Dwyane Wade's reading program helping increase kids' reading levels

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Dwyane Wade’s summer reading program is showing signs of success.

The program started in 2014 at Wade’s Alma Mater, Marquette University.

It encourages kids to read during the summer.

More than 130 second and third graders who have taken part in the program have either maintained or increased their reading level.

“It’s important that whatever we do to intervene with the kids, it’s what they need and they can’t always get that individualized attention in school,” said Dr. Bill Henk, Dean of the College of Education at Marquette University.

Wade donated money to Marquette University to fund the program through at least 2020.
