MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Early voting for the spring primary started Tuesday, Feb. 6 in Milwaukee.
Voters got to fill out their ballots at a new early voting site at 60th and Capitol Drive. It replaces the former Midtown Voting Center which was the city's most popular site.
The city's election commission says despite Milwaukee being one of the largest generators of revenue for the state, voter turnout lags behind the rest of Wisconsin. They hope to see a change this year by making voting more accessible.
"When we learned last year that we were in jeopardy of losing our old early voting spot on the north side, we really began to brainstorm and work really hard with our community partners to make sure that Milwaukee voters on the north side did not lose their voice and did not lose a convenient option for voting," said Claire Woodall-Vogg, executive director of the Milwaukee Election Commission.
Early voting runs until Feb. 17.
