Opening weekend is here for Slinger Speedway
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- They call it the 'Eat Fresh' Farmers Market and it helps low-income families do just that.
The market, located on Martin Luther King Drive in Milwaukee, is sponsored by WIC which is the federally funded program that helps women, infants, and children.
The goal is to make fresh fruits and vegetables easier to get and to encourage people to eat healthier foods.
It'll be open on the first and third Tuesdays of every month through early fall.
"I think what's really important is what WIC helps to increase access to fresh produce and so we're able to offer families this year, each family that qualifies is able to get a $30 value to be able to use that from June through October," said Angelia Wilks-Tate, WIC Project Director.
Wilks-Allen who is nationally recognized for his work in urban farming is supplying fresh produce for the "Eat Fresh" Market.
