MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Engineering students at a Racine High School are trying to solve a big problem for a little pup.
Forrest is a 4-month-old puppy who was recently rescued. He was brought to Wisconsin after he was found with an infected and missing paw in Texas.
Now, Case High School engineering class is working to create a new prosthetic paw for Forrest.
"Real world opportunities to solve problems, that's what we're trying to do here," said Dan Buchholz, the engineering design teacher at Case High School.
On Wednesday, Oct. 19 students took Forrest's measurements. Using a 3D laser, they also took images of his paws.
Next step, they'll work in groups to create his new foot.
"We're working with a lot of different experts to make something that will hopefully help him out in the long run," said Buchholz.
Forrest is currently staying with a foster family while they get his new prosthetic foot working, but he already has a family lined up to take him home.
"He's a typical puppy, he just doesn't like to walk on it when it's cold and he slips a lot," said Jessica Lietzke, who is currently fostering him.
The prosthetic limb will be here right in time for Forrest to enjoy the snow.
