MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Three more MPS schools will close temporarily due to significant lead hazards, according to a letter sent to parents on Thursday, March 13.

Starms Early Childhood Center, Fernwood Montessori, and LaFollette School are scheduled to close on Monday, March 17. The schools will be closed for remediation and cleaning.

According to MPS, Starms Early Childhood students and staff temporarily will relocate to Starms Discovery Learning Center. Fernwood students and staff will go to Andrew S. Douglas Middle School. LaFollette students and staff will temporarily go to Wisconsin Conservatory of Lifelong Learning. The health department says classroom items and anything else at the schools should be left there.

Officials say all three schools failed visual inspections, with MDH finding significant lead hazards on each campus.

This new round of closures comes just a week after Trowbridge was shut down due to lead hazards. Trowbridge is set to reopen tomorrow.
