'Everyone has really showed their support': Random Lake PTO hosts Color Run benefitting students in bus crash
RANDOM LAKE, Wis. (CBS 58) — It has been more than a week since a Random Lake school bus crashed in Ozaukee County.
The community is coming together Friday night to show their support for children who are still recovering.
Friends of Random Lake Kids, the PTO for Random Lake School District, is hosting a Homecoming Bash ahead of their annual Color Run.
Along with music, games, and food, participants get white T-shirts, run a marathon, and volunteers throw colored paint at them at the end.
It happens every year, and this year, it's for a good cause.
All proceeds from race registration will go to the children affected by the bus crash earlier this month.
It happened Sept. 16 at Highway E and Jay Road in Fredonia.
An SUV hit a school bus carrying 36 students, and the bus tipped over.
Eight students went to the hospital.
Friends of Random Lake Kids plans to make gift baskets for each child affected by the accident.
Board member Heidi Harry said it's another way for the community to extend a hand.
"Everyone has really showed their support and asked for ways they can help. Specifically, the teachers," Harry said. "The teachers, that was a lot for them too, and what they were put through. Those are their kids, you know, but they've been there to support the kids and do everything that they can."
More than 230 people pre-registered for Friday's Color Run.
After the race, there's a glow stick dance party at the Random Lake Entertainment District.
