MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 15-year-old is in custody in connection to the Monday mass shooting that killed one and injured five.

The sister of 15-year-old Davion Patterson, who died on scene, shared her last moment she shared with her brother.

Mari, older sister of Patterson, said a disagreement with another group quickly turned violent. She said her brother was trying to mediate the fight before gunshots rang out.

She said she met the group to fight.

"I just remember looking down the street and my brother was on the ground, and I held him for as long as I could," said Mari.

Loved ones describe Patterson as a smart and good kid. He was a sophomore at Milwaukee Excellence Charter School. Patterson's mother, Tiera Carter, is devastated by this loss.

"To go to sleep and your child is alive and wake up and you never see them again - that's something you don't wish on you enemy," said Carter.

On Monday, around 11:30 p.m., Milwaukee police responded to a shooting near 14th and Concordia Avenue. Patterson died at the scene; five others were injured. Those injured are all young women between the ages of 18 to 20. Mari was one of those women, she was grazed by a bullet.

Carter said her son was there to protect his sister. She said she had no idea her children left the home at night. Carter is urging her community to de-normalize gun violence before more innocent teens lose their lives.

"This needs to be a lesson to all kids out here. You go out here and do something stupid, this could be a consequence," said Carter.

The family has created a GoFundMe -- you can find it here.
