'Every year is just amazing': Fans enjoy Opening Day despite rain
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Milwaukee Brewers fans did not let a little rain spoil their Opening Day traditions.
"This is true Milwaukee. It could be sunny one day, or rainy the next, but that doesn't stop us from doing what we got to do," Brewers fan Terrell Morgan said.
Morgan and his crew were some of the first people out in the rain on Tuesday tailgating.
"Bravery," he said. "We're brave."
The friends set up a tent next to their cars while waiting to enter the stadium parking lots.
"[We've] been friends for like over 30 years, so this is what we do," Tarrell told CBS 58.
Once they could, fans, much like the rain, flooded the parking lots.
"[It's] just a tradition. Special time of year. It's great," Dan Dabrall said. "We grill out. We sit around. We've got hot toddies today. We try to match the season and what the weather is like."
Dabrell drove down from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on Tuesday to tailgate. While he described the weather as a "monsoon," he said nothing would stop them from showing up.
"This is one of the rougher [Opening Days] we've had, but we're really excited for the baseball. The team is great," he said.
Others huddled under shelters to try to stay dry, while reminiscing on past home openers.
"Been here when it was snowing, rain. One year it was the 70s and we all got sunburnt standing out here. We've seen it all, but this is by far probably one of the worst days," Jeff Heilgendorf said. "You live here, you follow the Brewers, good or bad. Opening Day is a great time."
For Heilgendorf, this game was special because he and his friends held the American flag during the pre-game activities.
"Just to be able to be out there and hang on to the American flag and show your pride in America, it's overwhelming actually," he said.
No matter what curveball Mother Nature throws at them, Brewers fans will always have fun.
"This place and tailgating, the culture," Dabrall said. "Every year is just amazing."
