It's time for fall fun at Havenwoods State Forest as the park offers year-round activities
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- If you're looking to get outside and enjoy the crisp fall air, Milwaukee has three state parks that are completely free to visit. One of the lesser known is Havenwoods State Forest on Milwaukee's northwest side.
"It’s nice to spend some time just taking it in and, kind of, getting a sense of calm with everyone’s hectic schedules busy lives," said Angela Vickio with the Department of Natural Resources.
The fall colors are the perfect excuse to visit the 237 acres of nature. There are also six miles of hiking trails, many of which are paved and accessible to all. There are also a variety of programs and classes for all ages, including an upcoming hunting Q & A and a movie in the park.
"That's followed by a candlelight hike and apple cider and s’mores," said Vickio. "We offer programs for the public year-round. We also offer, for the public to check-out, materials on the property — snowshoes, binocular, GPS units to do geocaching."
You can enjoy the Havenwoods seven days a week. There is also a nature center that's open Tuesday through Saturday.
