Families remembered loved ones in Milwaukee on Memorial Day
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- In honor of Memorial Day, people stopped by to pay their respects and remember their loved ones who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Those who came to visit at Wood National Cemetery in Milwaukee say they will never forget their family members sacrifice and will always hold them close to their hearts.
"He meant a lot to me," said Maria Reynosa, who visited her Father. "He meant the world to me. He talked a lot about the service."
Every year on Memorial Day Maria Reynosa comes to visit her father, Thomas Reynosa.
"He was a single father, so he raised me," said Reynosa. "So this is where I come to see my dad now that he passed away.”
Her father who raised her in West Bend served in World War II in the U.S. Army.
"He was very happy, outgoing, hard worker, very hard worker, loving man,” said Reynosa.
Dozens of people stopped by, taking a moment to remember their loved ones. Many left mementos in their honor and thanked them for their service.
"It's good to remember what they went through," said Janet Kerner, who visited multiple family members. “I don’t think people appreciate what people give up to ensure our freedoms.”
Kerner has multiple family members who served and are laid to rest at Wood Cemetery. She says she's grateful they are all at rest together and says she is thankful for every moment they shared.
"It’s very comforting to see all this calm and peace here," said Kerner. "They’re in a good place.”
