MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Brittany McGowan is trying to come to terms with the tragic death of her beloved cousin, Mashala Bell-Pabai.

“All I remember is getting a call from my mom telling me that my cousin was dead,” McGowan said.

According to the search warrant obtained by CBS 58, Bell-Pabai, 31, was shot multiple times in the chest near 24th and Auer on Saturday night. Before she died, she was able to call 911. Also killed was her girlfriend, Aubrianna Lancaster, 30.

According to the warrant, Bell-Pabai’s brother was arrested at the scene.

“They was like best friends. I mean what normal brother or sister never had a disagreement or regular argument. I don’t know what took place that day,” McGowan said.

Bell-Pabai leaves behind a 10-year-old daughter. She had moved to Milwaukee from Florida about two months ago to give her daughter a better life.

Although the family is distraught, they say Bell-Pabai will be remembered as an outgoing, caring woman who loved life. “She had a smile that would bright up the room, she loved to dance, sing,” McGowan said. “She loved her daughter.”

Charges are expected in the coming days. The case is being referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
