Pedestrian at bus stop killed in crash on Milwaukee's north side, driver arrested
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) --One person is dead after a crash took place late Thursday, July 11, on Milwaukee's Northwest Side.
According to Milwaukee Police, at around 11 p.m. Thursday, a car was traveling southbound on North 92nd St. at the intersection of West Hampton Ave., when the driver lost control near Hampton Ave. and drove onto the sidewalk. As a result, police said a 57-year-old, who was waiting at a bus stop, was struck. That same car then crashed into three other vehicles stopped at a stoplight on West Hampton.
Surveillance footage obtained by CBS 58 News captured from the Clark gas and convenience store across the street showed police and fire crews arriving about 15 minutes after the crash.
CBS 58 News spoke to a neighbor who also lives right across from the intersection. She didn't want to go on camera and wanted to remain anonymous but said these types of dangerous crashes are all too common in this area.
"Lots, probably I'd say at least 30 or 40 in a year, it's a lot," she said.
The 57-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and one of the other drivers was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities confirmed that the 25-year-old driver responsible for the crash was taken into custody.
MPD officials report that alcohol appears to have been a factor.
The incident remains under investigation.
