MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee city officials celebrated FlexRide on Thursday, Feb. 1, for completing its 50,000th ride.
FlexRide is a share service, similar to Uber and Lyft. It provides rides for people in multiple service zones in Milwaukee and Waukesha counties. Prices for one-way rides are as low as three dollars for adults.
FlexRide was created in 2022 with AARP funds and grants.
Last year, FlexRide expanded to provide free rides for working class families.
"We believe there was a gap in the transit availability in the area, in the region, not just in Milwaukee County and the investments made by the state and by Milwaukee County, in this program, it's really a test to prove that there is a need," said Kathy Ehley, chairwoman of MobiliSE Board.
Milwaukee County Executive Crowley also read an executive proclamation, commemorating the 50,000th ride.
