FoodShare recipients who lost food in recent storms could qualify for replacement benefits

CBS 58

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Southeast Wisconsin's recent bouts of severe weather may have caused some households to lose food due to flooding, damage, or lengthy power outages.

Hunger Task Force says residents who receive FoodShare benefits and lost food due to the storms may be eligible for replacement benefits equal to the value of food purchased with FoodShare.

To be eligible, the recipient must have experienced either a power outage lasting at least four hours or damage to/destruction of their home or workplace.

Qualifying recipients must fill out and submit a request for replacement form within 10 days of the weather event. Households will be asked to include how the food was destroyed and provide proof.

For power outages, members must request and include a letter from their utility company with their submission, confirming the length of the outage. Residents may then submit the form online, by fax, by mail or in person.

Hunger Task Force says eligible members should receive their replacement benefits no later than 10 days after the report of loss, or within two working days of the state receiving the signed form and verification -- whichever date is later. For more information, click here
