MILWAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A jury found Milwaukee's former city attorney Tearman Spencer guilty of misconduct in public office Friday, July 31, in a case dating back to 2023.

A criminal complaint alleges that while employed as a public officer, Spencer directed Milwaukee city attorney staff and resources "in an effort to have himself or another avoid fees and repairs required by the Department of Neighborhood Services inspections that totaled thousands of dollars." The complaint says this was also done in an effort to avoid inspections regarding his personal property.

Prosecutors also said Spencer misled investigators when questioned about the use of resources to his personal benefit.

The jury returned a not guilty verdict for a misdemeanor charge of resisting or obstructing an officer.

Spencer is scheduled for sentencing on Sept. 11.
