MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- At a recent Admirals game, Sam Mayer was all about the trike race.

"I'm gonna do my best to do it," Sam Mayer says. "But you know, I don't know what to expect. I don't think any one of us knows what to expect. I certainly know that you guys don't know what to expect. But we're gonna have a good time, for sure."

And Mayer has a new team, switching from JR Motorsports to Haas.

"It feels pretty good to have a hat like this on," Mayer says. "And making the swap over to Haas factory is definitely something different. It's something that I didn't necessarily see in the cards a year ago, but now that the opportunity is here? I'm really excited about it. We get to go out and compete for wins. And hopefully a championship at the end of the year."

And the goal is even more, after an up and down 2024.

"At the end of the year, we wanna win that championship," Mayer says emphatically. "That's really the only thing I haven't done in the Xfiniity Series. So that's something that I wanna check off the list for sure, before hopefully going Cup racing in the next couple of years. I think we're going to go out there and win some races. The goal is five. It would be my most winningest season, so if we can go do that, I think we'd be in a really good shot to go and do what we need to do and go win a championship."

His first win came in his home state at Road America. And now he has seven Xfinity victories.

"We've had two solid years the last couple years," Mayer says. "And I think this year, we want it to be the best. And we wanna go out there and win races and win a championship. And that starts with just having speed off the truck and having a good team behind me."

But the call up to NASCAR Cup isn't far off.

"I'm hoping sooner rather than later, for sure," Mayer says. "I've been chomping at the bit to get that opportunity, but I know that the good Lord is looking down on me and making the right decisions for me. This is certainly one that I didn't see happening but it's something I'm really excited for."
