MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The baseball season is in full swing, with the Milwaukee Brewers kicking the year off on a positive note with a 4-1 record as of Thursday, April 4.
For fans unable to attend games in person, there is an alternative: watching the games on television for free on CBS 58's sister station, Telemundo Wisconsin.
The station offers live broadcasts of the Brewers' home games on Sundays in Spanish. CBS 58 Sports Director Kevin Holden joins Jaime Cano, who provides color commentary, in handling the broadcasts. The 2024 season marks the 24th season of live Spanish Brewers broadcasts.
The broadcasts aim to make baseball accessible to Spanish-speaking fans, offering a unique way to experience the games.
That said, for viewers not fluent in Spanish, Telemundo Wisconsin is prepared to help bridge the language gap with common baseball terms! "Baseball" translates to "béisbol," while the Brewers are referred to as "Los Cerveceros."
Other key terms to listen out for include "campo corto" for shortstop, "cerrador" for closer, "un ponche" for a strikeout, "bases robadas" for stolen bases and "un cuadrangular" or "jonrón" for home run, a favorite term for Kevin Holden, especially when rolling his R's!
Telemundo Wisconsin broadcasts can be found over the air on channels 63.1 and 58.4, offering a free way to follow their team throughout the season, while also providing some Spanish practice along the way.
