Frosty 5K takes place on final weekend of Waukesha JanBoree
WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- People of all ages laced up their running shoes for a not-so-frosty, "Frosty 5K." It took place on Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Waukesha JanBoree. It's the final weekend for the winter fest.
Check in was early at the Schuetze Recreation Center.
"It's great to see the same faces at the races all the time so this is kind of fun that way," said Karen Witkowski, participant.
The Frosty 5K's annual run in Waukesha, even offering a race for Waukesha's newest runners.
"I am one of those people that actually likes to run in the cold. So, this is my weather today," said Maureen Harkin Konkol, participant.
Some years, the weather's made it extra challenging. 2024's, a foggy one, but those who return year after year, it's perfect.
"It's the best weather we've ever had here Couple years ago it was 15 below so we're happy with the 35 degrees on January 27, 2024," said Sean Osborne, Race Director.
Among the crowd, so many stories of how people got into running. CBS 58 caught up with a mom and daughter sharing a win, even before the race starts. It's a win because the daughter beat cancer.
"I feel nervous for the race, but I feel really good," said Katie Ahnen, participant.
Katie and Ruth Ann Ahnen will be running together.
"She's overcome so much, so much that most people don't even know, and she doesn't let any of it define her," said Ruth Ann Ahnen, participant and mom.
"Being able to say that I walked away from cancer, it's a lot, so it's really cool," said Katie Ahnen.
Some 450 participants went through the start and finish lines at Frame Park.
