Geyser waives revocation hearing after escaping group home

WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Morgan Geyser will remain in a mental health institution after escaping her Madison group home last month.

The 23-year-old convicted in the Slender Man stabbing had a hearing Tuesday, Dec. 23 about her future after the state says she violated the terms of her conditional release.

Geyser appeared in court via Zoom Tuesday, to tell Judge Scott Wagner she is not contesting the Wisconsin Department of Health Services petition to revoke her conditional release -- meaning Geyser will resume her sentence at a state-run psychiatric facility.

DHS requested to revoke Geyserr's release last month, after she cut off her GPS monitor and escaped her group home.

She was arrested a day later at a truck stop near Chicago and extradited back to Wisconsin where she was taken to the Waukesha County Jail, then transferred to a mental health facility.

Tuesday's hearing came a week after Geyser's attorney, Anthony Cotton, sent a letter to Judge Wagner stating Geyser would not contest the revocation of release, meaning a hearing set for February about the petition would be canceled.

Tuesday's hearing confirmed that choice with Judge Wagner speaking directly to Geyser about the decision.

Judge Wagner: "You're making the decision to waive this revocation hearing freely, intelligently, and voluntarily, is that correct?"

Morgan Geyser: "Yes sir."

Anthony Cotton: "I have an 11-year history with Ms. Geyser, and I'm comfortable with her decision."

The judge granted DHS's petition, saying Geyser will remain in confined according to her original commitment order given in 2018 -- a 40-year sentence to a mental health facility.

The exact facility she's in now is sealed by the court but before her conditional release, Geyser had served seven years at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute.
