Glendale Police warn of We Energies phone scam

GLENDALE, Wis. (CBS 58) – The Glendale Police Department is warning people about a phone scam of people claiming to be from We Energies.

According to We Energies, the scammers try to convince a person to purchase a prepaid debit card. The scammers are reportedly telling customers if they don’t get the debit card, their power will be shut off.

We Energies says it never solicits payment in a threatening manner.

If you receive a suspicious call, hang up.

People should be aware of these scams. I have received several calls from 800-653-5307 since few days ago. After I looked up the number on Google, I found some reports have been filed at https://www.whycall.me/800-653-5307.html about similar utility scams. We need to keep informing our family about how these scammers work.
