MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – The United Community Center continued an exciting tradition Friday Aug 9. with their guests of honor dressed to the nines.
In Hispanic culture, a Quinceañera is a party to celebrate turning 15 years old, and the transition into becoming a woman.
It's a special milestone, and these ladies are proof it's never too late to celebrate.
UCC hosted their second annual Belated Quinceañera for Seniors, giving those who missed out on one as teenagers a second chance.
"It's like a bucket list, you know, sometimes you don't get to do things that you wish you would have," said Ana Castaneda, elderly programs manager at UCC. "Having the opportunity to do it is super exciting for them."
Nine women from the UCC Senior Center made a grand entrance, waltzing with chambelanes - male dancers - who volunteered to make their day special.
"They look amazing. Beautiful and happy," said volunteer and staff member, Idelfonso Garibay. "Maybe it wouldn't have been a big deal for other people, but for them, it's a huge deal."
The event is a way to celebrate tradition and show beauty comes at any age.
"You will see it in their eyes, the sparkle of happiness to be sharing this moment," Castaneda said.
