CBS 58’s One Good Thing: Miracle Minute at football game
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- In a grand opening Saturday morning, Aug. 3, the Republican Party of Wisconsin celebrated once again having a Hispanic outreach center on Milwaukee's south side.
"From my perspective as chairman, it's a dream come true, and we want to do outreach out of this office to Hispanics all over Wisconsin, and frankly, all over southeastern Wisconsin," said Brian Schimming, Chair with the Republican Party of Wisconsin.
It is not the first time the Wisconsin GOP has done this type of outreach.
The party opened a Hispanic outreach center before the 2022 midterms, but the office closed after that election.
Milwaukee Alderwoman JoCasta Zamarripa, speaking on behalf of the Kamala Harris campaign, says Latino voters should remember what former president Donald Trump sought to end he DACA program, which grants amnesty to children who entered the U.S. illegally, but spent most of their lives in this country.
"Next month will be seven years ago that he repealed DACA, that the Trump administration tried to take DACA away from our DACA Dreamers," said Zamarripa.
The Supreme Court struck down the attempt to end DACA in 2020.
In 2024, the issue of immigration, and efforts to reach Latino voters, loom large for both major parties in Wisconsin.
