Green Bay Packers and Sargento Foods turning touchdowns into fighting hunger
GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Green Bay Packers and Sargento Foods are renewing their commitment to fight hunger in Wisconsin through their Touchdowns for Hunger program.
Entering its 21st season, the initiative will see Sargento donate $2,000 for every touchdown scored by the Packers during the regular season.
The effort aims to benefit Hunger Task Force in Milwaukee and Paul’s Pantry in Green Bay.
According to a Tuesday, Sept. 5 press release, the program has already raised more than $1.8 million since its inception in 2002.
"We look forward to another year of rooting for the Green and Gold while helping alleviate hunger and food insecurity for Wisconsin families," said Louie Gentine, third-generation CEO of Sargento Foods.
Last season, the Packers scored 42 touchdowns, leading to a total donation of $104,000.
The program has provided more than one million meals to Wisconsin families in need.
