Haase knows his role for the Brewers
PHOENIX, Ariz. (CBS 58) -- Eric Haase knows his role with the Brewers.
One, back up William Contreras, who finished fifth in the NL MVP voting. And two, look the part of a wise veteran.
CBS 58 Sports Director Lance Allan said "If you look good you play good. I mean you got great hair. You got a trimmed beard. You're looking good, man."
"Ah, I'm trying," Eric Haase said. "You know, hopefully the playing good comes up the back end of that, but you know, handle what I can."
CBS 58 Sports Director Lance Allan asked if he tries to take the mask off a little more often.
"I try to stay just out of sight as much as possible," Haase said. "You know if it's going smooth and we're in games and you know, I'm not getting called out by Murph in his team meetings? Then I'm probably in a good spot."
Haase dispenses every morsel of knowledge that he has.
What is in his fiber to do that?
"That's just what the job is," Haase said. "You know, that's how I've had a chance to stick around as long as I have. The mental side of the game and that took a long time for me to kind of get ahold of myself. You know, I went through a lot of trials in the early minor leagues. The middle minor leagues. Upper, you know, I've been the swing guy. I've been up and down. Optioned all over the place. So, trying to just offer that knowledge to the young guys because it's not you know a matter of if it's going to happen it's when. And it's just how can they be prepared for that and the next opportunity coming up."
Haase said he didn't get much of a chance in Cleveland behind two All-Stars and bounced to Detroit. Now, he doesn't mind backing up a two-time All-Star.
