Holiday events with a Latin twist in Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE (CBS58) – Music is found in every culture and can cross language barriers. This week, there are numerous events to get you into the holiday spirit, no matter the language.
On Thursday, December 7 you’ll hear the classics of Christmas with a “cultural flare” with the group Mariachi Herencia de México which is coming to Milwaukee to perform a Mariachi Christmas. At this performance, which starts at 7:30 p.m. at the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center you can expect to hear Mexican and American Christmas favorites. That includes the group's "reimagined" holiday hits like "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas", "Winter Wonderland", and more.
Then On Saturday, Dec. 9 you can travel throughout Spain and Latin America through Milwaukee’s very own Flamenco Nutcracker. Local dancers and musicians recomposed Tchaikovsky's holiday classic by incorporating Spanish flamenco, alongside Colombian and Cuban joropos, alongside some still recognizable pieces from the classic ballet. You can see the show this Saturday at South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center at 2 and 7 p.m. Watch our full piece on it from the Sunday Morning show.
For a Hanukkah event with some Latin flare, celebrate “Latkes con salsa - a Latin jazz Hanukkah". Organizers say this event is a project that spins a new groove to Hanukkah songs, and they invite you to celebrate the festival of lights with a latin jazz twist! Celebrations will be at "Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery" from December 14th to 17th, all at 7 p.m.
