Packers running back Josh Jacobs pleads no contest in battery case
GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs appeared in court for the first time since he was arrested and charged after an altercation with a woman.
He pleaded no contest to charges of battery and damage to property on Thursday, Sept. 10.
Jacobs appeared in court alongside his attorney. Prosecutors and Jacobs' defense agreed Jacobs accepted the responsibility of his actions.
Court documents say Jacobs threw his girlfriend to the ground during an argument on May 23. Investigators say she had an injury to her head.
Jacobs was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine plus court costs on the battery charge and a deferred judgement agreement between the prosecution and Jacobs' attorneys was accepted.
As the Packers prepare for their season opener on Sunday, the court proceeding could determine when exactly the running back could return to the football field.
The NFL released the following statement on the case:
"We have been closely monitoring all developments in the matter which remains under review of the personal conduct policy. There is no change to his status as he remains on the Commissioner’s Exempt list.”
