Hometown students gather for hands-on, eco-friendly learning

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A group of students on Tuesday, May 13 gathered for a hands-on day of learning in one of Wisconsin's state parks.
The Milwaukee Water Investigation Project is a series of classes focused on eco-friendly practices and water safety.
Students rotated through interactive, water-focused activities taught by local scientists and environmental educators.
This project hopes to inspire today's youth to engage with and take care of their environment.
"The whole goal of this project is to connect students with their local waterways and then all of the partners working in water," said Kae DonLevy, co-creator and manager of Milwaukee Water's Investigation. "So the students can actually get a feel of what that looks like and asking them. 'Where do we get our drinking water?' Lake Michigan. So, it is so important that we keep the land clean and the rivers clean so the waters that flow into Lake Michigan are as clean as they can be."
The Friends of Lakeshore State Park have also launched a $5 million fundraising campaign to build a new visitor and education center.
