House explosion in Dane County leaves 1 person dead

SPRINGFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- One person is dead following a house explosion late Friday, May 28 in the Dane County town of Springfield.

Officials from the Dane County Sheriff's Office say the explosion happened at around 11 p.m. near Schneider and Capitol View Road.

Some neighbors reported hearing gunshots, with authorities believing that the fire may have set off ammunition that was stored inside of the home.

The Salvation Army and Madison Gas and Electric both responded to the scene to help.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
