CBS 58

KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An overnight fire at an Amazon warehouse facility in Kenosha led to the evacuation of 360 employees Friday, July 24.

Firefighters responded to the warehouse on 38th St. near 120th Ave. just after 2 a.m., according to the Kenosha Fire Department (KFD), and found heavy smoke inside the building.

With the help of Kenosha police and Amazon management, all employees were safely evacuated and taken to another Amazon facility with buses provided by Kenosha Area Transit.

The fire department says crews were able to contain the fire and prevent further extension with the assistance of the building's automatic sprinkler system. Firefighters are now working to put out hot spots.

Officials say the scene remains active due to ongoing operations. No injuries have been reported.

KFD says the building sustained "significant" smoke and water damage. An estimate is not yet available.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
