MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) --- The 2023 Santa Cycle Rampage brought out hundreds of participants to raise money for a good cause.
The event returned for it's 19th year on Saturday and is the world's largest holiday themed bike ride for charity. More than 1,500 rider participated doing a 12-mile loop around the city.
Jake Newborn with the Wisconsin Bike Federation says each year gets bigger and better.
"It's a fundraiser ride for us. The Wisconsin Bike Fed. We're a statewide non-profit cycling advocacy and education organization," said Newborn.
Some participants this year were new to the festivities, while others have done it many times.
Joe Zuniga is participating for the first time this year. "I've always seen it. I went to school downtown. I've been in Milwaukee the last 10 years, and this is the first year that I'm deciding to do it," he said.
Organizers say the money raised will go towards making a more bike-friendly Wisconsin.
"There's been a reckless driving problem not only in Milwaukee but across the country. Pedestrian and cycling deaths have unfortunately slightly increased but today is all about a celebration of being on the road," said Newborn.
Officials say plans for the 20th year ride are already underway.
