'I wouldn't wish this on nobody': People gather to remember those lost and injured by reckless driving
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The City of Milwaukee's Office of Vision Zero and the Coalition for Safe Driving MKE are remembering the lives of people killed and seriously injured in traffic crashes.
According to the traffic violence dashboard, 53 people have died this year because of car crashes in Milwaukee.
Victim's families and community leaders came out to remember those who've been lost.
Gloria Shaw told CBS 58 her only child, Xaiver Davis, was killed by a hit-and-run driver in August of 2022. She says no one should have to experience the pain she continues to feel.
"I wouldn't wish this on nobody. Nobody should feel, going day to day, missing your loved one," Gloria Shaw said. "Not being able to pick up the phone, not being able to text them, not being able to say, 'hey how was your day?' Or 'take the garbage out.' Or nobody should have to bury your child."
Davis was killed around 12:30 a.m. near 6th and Juneau on August 28, 2022.
He would have been 27 years old tomorrow, Nov. 16. and his family is still looking for justice.
