Inmate dies at Waupun Correctional Institution, 5th death at prison this year

DODGE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An Associated Press report has identified the deceased inmate as 57-year-old Christopher McDonald.

DODGE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An inmate at Waupun Correctional Institution in Dodge County has died. 

The sheriff's office tells us they were contacted by the prison just before 7:30 a.m. Monday morning, Aug. 5. 

The sheriff says an initial investigation shows the death was likely self-inflicted. He notes the staff responded to the discovery of the inmate "rapidly and appropriately" and says they tried to save the inmate. 

This is the fifth inmate to die at the prison just this year. 

In June, nine people, including the former warden, were arrested by the sheriff's office in connection to the deaths of two inmates.
