Police: Suspect fired shots at car that slowed down to offer help near I-94 and Hawley Road

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Police believe the suspect involved in a shots fired incident near I-94 and Hawley Road Tuesday was involved in a one-vehicle collision on the I-94 off ramp at Hawley. 

When a driver slowed down to offer help, the 22-year-old suspect got out of his vehicle and began firing shots at the driver's car while running through a grassy area. 

No injuries were reported, but the car was struck at least once. 

Police say the suspect left the scene and entered a nearby apartment building, where it was reported that he rang doorbells and displayed erratic behavior before leaving.

The suspect was taken into custody around 8:56 a.m. Tuesday and remains in custody pending the presentation of charges.

MILWAUKEE COUNTY (CBS 58) – The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office is continuing to search for a man following a shots fired incident on Interstate 94 early Tuesday morning.

Authorities say around 3 a.m., a deputy saw an abandoned car in the median of the off-ramp on westbound I-94 at Hawley Road. Shortly after, a person who lives on Hawley Rd. called 911 and reported having contact with a person who was behaving erratically and said he was involved in a crash on the highway.

While deputies were responding to the caller's home, Milwaukee Police say officers made contact with a second car that got off I-94 at Hawley Rd. The people in the car told authorities they saw the man get out of his car and enter the woods. He then fired multiple shots at the second car.

No one was hurt.

Authorities say they used a K-9 police dog to try and find the suspect, but were unable to locate the man. Investigators are continuing to search for the suspect.

MILWAUKEE COUNTY (CBS 58) – An investigation is underway near Interstate 94 and Hawley Road Tuesday morning.

The Hawley Road off-ramp is closed as of 5:50 a.m., where a car is in the ditch.

Authorities say the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. No other information is available at this time.
