MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Members of the community are continuing to show support for Milwaukee Police Department District 3, nearly two weeks after Officer Daniel Gonzales was shot and injured in the line of duty.

The 34-year-old officer was shot twice on Feb. 12, near 24th Street and Wisconsin Avenue.

Gonzales has since undergone emergency surgery.

On Monday, his fellow officers received a token of appreciation.

"Let's put a smile on their face. What can we do? Well, they love to eat," laughed community activist Tracey Dent.

Dent joined Milwaukee's North Avenue Community Ambassadors and other community members at Milwaukee Police District 3 Monday, to deliver a hot meal to the officers.

"It really feels good. We know the community supports us, but seeing it in person, it really means a lot to us," said District 3 Captain Raymon Bratchett.

"This is just something from the community to the police department to say, hey, thank you for doing what you're doing," Dent said. "All the stuff that you do does not go unnoticed."

Along with the food delivery, the group brought a signed card for Officer Daniel Gonzales.

"He's got a lot of support from here, he's got a lot of support within our department and the city," Bratchett said. "You know, it's a long road, but he's, all things considered, doing well."

Officer Gonzales was released from the hospital last week. He is now recovering at home.
