MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — The Trump administration is revoking visas for international university and college students across the country.

Now, some international students at the Universities of Wisconsin have gotten their visas revoked.

Nearly 300 students across the country have had their visas revoked with little to no warning.

"Really shocked because they aren't doing anything inherently wrong," said a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM).

According to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, as of Monday, six current students and seven alumni on employment extensions got their visas terminated.

The statement says the exact reason this happened is unclear but comes as colleges and universities across the country see mass revoking of international student visas.

They say the people affected may need to leave the country.

One UWM sophomore says the international students do more than attend class.

"There are a lot of international students that are student workers here, so it's going to be really bad," said the sophomore.

Student jobs like working in the union, on-campus housing or in offices.

One UWM freshman says her friends worry they might be next.

"My roommates, they are currently on some sort of visa. I know they are being affected by this and their plans after graduations are going to be tight," said the student.

On Tuesday, Universities of Wisconsin spokesperson Mark Pitsch said in a statement:

"We know of 14 instances in which student/former student visas were terminated at universities other than UW-Madison."

This means that there are 27 students currently affected.

Many universities do not want to comment because of FERPA laws that protect student privacy, but there are nearly 8,000 international students that attend UW Madison, according to the university's office of admission.
