'It's senseless:' Milwaukee business provides free temporary repair services amid recent string of vehicle break-ins
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- If you've been a victim or have heard about a recent string of car break-ins in Milwaukee lately, you're not alone.
According to Milwaukee police, in the two-week span from July 7 to July 21, 170 vehicles were targeted.
Now, a local business on the city's east side is stepping up to help those in need.
“We’ll clean the glass in their vehicle, make sure that it’s safe for kids, pets, themselves, so nobody cuts themselves, and we will tape up and seal the window to make it waterproof, so they don’t have any water damage until they get it formally repaired," said Mazen Muna, the owner of Metro Car Wash and Detailing Centre.
Just in the last five days, Muna and his team have helped temporarily fix more than 100 cars, all for free -- the worst they've seen in 16 years.
“In a time where bad things are happening, it feels good to do the right thing," Muna told CBS 58's Ellie Nakamoto-White. “Customers are very appreciative, and the neighborhood is appreciative, and there are people that I don’t even know that just pull up and say thank you for what you’re doing for the community.”
Muna said these kinds of acts are "senseless" and need to stop.
“Ninety-nine percent of the cars that we’re seeing are just vandalized, they’re not gone into, and nothing is stolen out of them," Muna said. “People are at home resting and getting ready for the next day, whatever the case may be, and they wake up to find the window shattered. It just makes no sense.”
Milwaukee police did not provide a comment or a statement when asked.
