Jury finds man accused of 200+ sex crimes against women, children guilty
RACINE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A man accused of more than 200 sex crimes against women and children was found guilty by jury Thursday, March 2.
Shane Stanger, of Iowa, faced dozens of charges, and was found guilty of 10 counts second degree sexual assault of an unconscious victim, 11 counts capturing an image of nudity, five counts capturing an intimate representation and two counts invasion of privacy.
Stanger was arrested after a female acquaintance found several videos of Stanger assaulting her stored on his computer. She said she had no recollection of the incident. Several more victims then came forward.
Police say Stanger traveled between Iowa and Wisconsin committing the crimes.
Forensics of Stanger's laptop and cellphone found numerous acts of sexual assault to two adults and a juvenile and several videos of victims showering and using the restroom. Police said victims ranged in age from 10 to about 40.
Authorities said Stanger victimized adults and children when they were asleep.
A sentencing hearing has been set for July 14.
