Officer-involved shooting in Kenosha County leaves one suspect dead

TOWN OF PARIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation issued a release on Tuesday morning to confirm that the suspect involved in an officer-involved shooting in the Town of Paris on Monday, Jan. 16 did not survive their injuries.

A vehicle pursuit began in Racine County on Monday afternoon before entering Kenosha County at around 3:30 p.m.

Deputies from Kenosha County Sheriff's Office, Racine County Sheriff's Office and troopers from the State Patrol approached the vehicle after the driver exited it in a nearby field.

They reportedly gave commands for the suspect to drop a firearm before firing upon the suspect.

The report notes that first aid was rendered at the scene of the incident and the subject was taken to a local hospital where they later died.

TOWN OF PARIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An investigation is underway following an officer-involved shooting in the Town of Paris Monday, Jan. 16.

Just after 3:30 p.m., the Kenosha County Sheriff's Department assisted with a vehicle pursuit that entered Kenosha County.

The suspect vehicle crashed into a field near US 45 and County Highway KR, and authorities say the suspect pointed a weapon at multiple law enforcement officers.

Law enforcement fired at the suspect who was transported from the scene to an area hospital.

The involved deputies have been placed on administrative assignment per department policy.

The Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation will be the lead investigating agency per protocol for officer-involved shootings.

TOWN OF PARIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area near 1st Street and 69th Drive near the Great Lakes Dragaway. 

Deputies are currently assisting the Racine County sheriff with an armed suspect. 

Officials say the suspect is contained, but not yet in custody. 

The sheriff's department says the area is not safe, and the public is asked to avoid the area and take alternate routes.
