MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A young woman who served her country and is now serving other veterans just like her. In Milwaukee on Thursday, Nov. 6, she was given the keys to a brand-new car through a program called "Keys to Progress" from Progressive Insurance.
Lottie McGill served in the Air Force during the Gulf War. She says she's battled PTSD and describes herself as a suicide survivor.
Three years ago, McGill sold her possession and hit the road with her service dog, Cooper, helping other veterans access VA services.
She lost her vehicle in an accident, but now the new car will help her continue her work. At Thursday's ceremony, she spoke emotionally about what the gift means.
"I can tell you that moments like this, being seen, supported and believed in, gives others hope," said McGill. "It shows veterans everywhere that people do care, that their lives matter and that there is purpose behind the pain. That life is worth living."
McGill says she doesn't like flying so the new car will give her more independence and allow her to reach more veterans.
