Kohl's, Hunger Task Force hand out free backpacks, meals for hometown kids
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Kohl's and Hunger Task Force (HTF) partnered to distribute free backpacks and meals to children on Thursday, Aug. 13, at Burnham Play Field.
Families throughout Milwaukee have been impacted by the rising costs of living so this event was a way for families to prepare for back-to-school season.
"Honestly, it's the best part of the day to see the smile on these kids' faces when they get to have that brand new backpack. We know going back to school should feel fun, exciting and not overwhelming, and to be able to take a little burden off of these kids and their families and give them a new backpack to start the school year off on the right foot is a really exciting opportunity for Kohl's."
There were even some fun surprises in the backpacks -- like squishy toys and of course, school supplies.
