MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Meet "Lance Talon," one of the peregrine falcon chicks hatched at a We Energies power plant.
The chick is named after our very own sports director, Lance Allan, and on Monday, Lance finally got to meet his namesake.
These birds are still on the endangered list but making a comeback in places like downtown Milwaukee.
Lance got to meet this little guy Friday morning at the We Energies Valley Power Plant on Canal Street. The chick is banded with a monitoring tracker tag. Now, hopefully little Talon will grow and leave the nest.
"He's still a baby, he's 19 days of age today," said Greg Septon, peregrine falcon researcher. "They generally fledge between about 38 and 42 days of age, so we've got a little time here. Once they fledge, they're on their own."
He says the chicks will depend on the adults for food for a few weeks. Once they start catching prey on their own, they'll head out into the world.
