MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- February is Children's Dental Health Month, a time to evaluate dental habits for kids in the household and how to make improvements immediately.
Dr. Wendy Zhu, a pediatric dentist from Dental Associates joined us on Wednesday, Feb. 22 to offer insight on a number of issues related to kids' teeth.
According to Dr. Zhu, cavities are quite common in young children, affecting nearly one in four kids aged 2 to 5 years old. It's important to take care of baby teeth as they can affect the development of adult teeth.
She also discussed the fact that children should start seeing the dentist by their first birthday, or within six months of their first tooth coming in.
One other tip to remember is the "2-2-2" dental routine, which includes brushing twice a day for two minutes and visiting the dentist twice a year, is also advised for maintaining strong oral health.
